The next chief executive of The National Youth Agency will bring a background in education and training to the role. The board of The NYA has selected Fiona Blacke, currently regional director (learning, planning and performance) for the Learning and Skills Council in Yorkshire and the Humber, for the coveted post. She is a former chief executive of Connexions Tees Valley, as well as a trained youth worker. Before moving to England five years ago she was deputy chief executive and director of youth issues at the Scottish Community Education Council.
Asda has said that it will pay staff who are under 18 years old the same hourly rate of pay as older workers. The Leeds-based supermarket chain said it had taken the decision in the light of anti-age discrimination laws which came into force on Sunday. An Asda spokeswoman said: We no longer think it's acceptable to have different pay rates for different age groups.
